F1 in Schools National Finals 2016

F1 in Schools National Finals 2016

This year, the competition took place at the F1 Pit Building from 14-15 July. Our school sent two teamsto compete in the two categories namely the Bloodhound class and the F1 class. Swift Tachyon, whom have participated last year, participated in the Bloodhound class. For the F1 class, our school sent a new team, Arrow Strike.

The two teams were unwavering in their desire to win the competition, and they also showed great sportsmanship. Upon entering the competition venue, the teams were surprised at the number of teams competing and the designs of their cars and posters.

On the first day, they set up the booths for their pit display and prepared themselves for the pit display judging sessions, the verbal presentation and the time trial race. Each team had to give a verbal presentation where the members highlighted the process behind the creation and manufacturing of the car. Everyone practiced for hours before finally entering the room where they were judged on their presentation skills

We spent time ensuring that the booth was set up properly to captivate the audience. As the team members walked around, they also made new friends and soon got used to the environment and crowd.

The second day was the day both cars’ performances were tested.

Team Swift Tachyon was able to reach the finals for the knock-out race. Though it did not manage to win the race, they were able to grab three awards, Fastest Car, Best Team Identity and Best Marketing and Sponsorship Award. At the same time, Team Arrow Strike won the Best Engineered Car and Overall Second Place. On top of that, they received $1000 and 6 tickets for the F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2016.

Overall, the competition was a big success. As this is the last year that Henderson Secondary School is taking part, both teams felt very honored and proud to have brought back many trophies and prizes. Most importantly, they have gained a lot of experience and memories which they will never forget.
